From Puerto Ayora...

Hello everyone, from the middle of the Pacific. Ok, maybe not quite the middle, but 1000 km east of Ecuador. I'm writing this entry from not so sunny, in fact quite overcast, Puerto Ayora on the Isla Santa Cruz. We just spent the morning checking out the giant tortosies they have in captivity at Darwin Station and now I have a little bit of free time to post a much needed update.

Well I'm exactly halfway through my eight day Galapagos tour, and so far, I have to say that it's been pretty awesome, especially the diving. Even though we haven't dived as much as I was expecting, the thing we got to see have definitely been worth it. It's like there's this whole other tour going on that only the divers are exposed to. Like two nights ago, as the other regular guests were having dinner, the divers suited up and speed away from the yacht into the darkness for our first night dive. As the lights from the ships dissipated in the distance, the entire horizon lit up with hundreds of stars. It was, without a doubt, one of the most beautiful skies I have ever seen; though i didn´t recognize a single constellation.

During the dive, we swam with a sea turtle and two playful sea lions who were probably wondering what the hell we were doing down there at night and so obviously ill equipped for the water. They banked, dove and barrel rolled with a grace and ease through the water that made me envious. And afterwards, as we pulled ourselves back into the boat, or panga as the locals call it, I saw Orion, my favorite constellation, rise in the eastern sky. It was a great night.

Anyway, this internet is costing me an arm and a leg so I'll sign off here and promise to get pictures up eventually. My first 1GB card is almost full. Luckily I have a spare. Later all.

A Quick Update...

Ok, I have tons of entries to post and a couple of hundred pictures to put up but I just finished fighting off a fever last night and Chris and I are leaving early Monday morning for an 8 day tour of the Galapogos Islands, so this will have to be a quick update. I'm still in Ecuador and will be until probably early December. It doesn't look like I will be able to make it to Peru until next year. I'll probably go straight from Ecuador to meet up with people in Argentina and from there to Boliva. I'll try to get to the internet tomorrow and hopefully upload some stuff. Until then, I guess keep waiting :)
